Operator XR first sale to Australian Defence Force

Operator XR is leading the way for immersive military virtual reality training and we are proud to announce the successful sale of its OP-1 Tactical Rehearsal System to the Australian Department of Defence.

The system will be used by the Australian Army and initially provided to deployed units to maintain military skills, using Operator XR’s immersive VR simulation platform, OP-1. This system brings a new dimension to enhancing critical military skills and has been purchased as part of a concept evaluation process.

The 4 person OP-1 System allows for tactical teams to train and rehearse in Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and urban combat scenarios with unparalleled realism.

Users train on their own weapons, as the system is supplied with M4 “drop in” kits that replace the bolt and magazine of the live weapon with an untethered, pneumatic recoil system and weapon tracking sensors. This integration creates a lifelike experience that mirrors real-world weapon handling.

The OP-1 System is a compact design, with the complete system for 4 users packing into a double rifle case. There are no external computers required, with the system operating seamlessly off a high-powered tablet, which also serves as the hub for the After Action Review (AAR) system.

Additionally, OP-1 operates completely offline, allowing the virtual reality training system to be deployed securely, and in locations without internet.

Operator XR is honoured to stand beside the Australian Department of Defence in their pursuit of maintaining and advancing the capabilities of their armed forces through cutting-edge technology.

Release of first in-house produced VR game, Androids & Outlaws

Androids & Outlaws

We are very excited to announce our first in-house video game experience, developed by our own VR studio, Red Cartel, has now been released and is playing in our Bondi and Gold Coast venues.

Androids & Outlaws is a fun and competitive multiplayer shooter game, played in FREAK’s Free-Roam Arena. The game pits 2 or 4 players against each other and features a friendly, cartoony aesthetic and utilizes the Vive Focus 3 Virtual Reality headset. To play, players are given a virtual shield and gun, and must shoot the opposing team to gain points. There is no limit to how many times players can be shot, as each round is based on a time limit. The team that holds the most points at the end of the round is victorious.

The Arena was previously limited to players aged 10 or older due to the weight of the backpack and equipment. However, by offering the use of the Vive Focus 3 and its accompanying controllers instead, the heavy equipment is entirely eliminated, allowing a younger and wider audience to play Androids & Outlaws.

Red Cartel spent several months developing this title specifically and exclusively for FREAK to use in the Arena to increase the market audience by accessing a younger demographic.

The in-house production means the game can be modified ongoing and quickly with any improvements that may be required.

FREAK have already seen a growth in the use of the second Arena during weekday operations, and an increase in younger players aged 8+, thanks to the release of this exclusive new title.

Virtual Reality (VR) has arrived!

iFLY Indoor Skydiving Downunder, Australia’s largest facility for indoor skydiving, have introduced Virtual Reality as part of their experience offers, a revolutionary first for the Australian market.

“Virtual Reality is something we have been working towards introducing into our facilities for a long time”, comments ISAG National Marketing Manager Cheryl Dawson, “We have been waiting for the technology to become advanced enough that the experience replicates the skydiving experience perfectly, we are very excited with our new product”.

Virtual reality will allow users a real-world skydiving experience, without the need to jump from a plane or even wear a parachute.

“Our iFLY VR experience has skyrocketed our indoor skydiving offering to a whole new level. During our testing phase we had some of the country’s best skydivers using the product, with many commenting on its realism and how they felt like they were really flying outdoors!”

The iFLY VR Experience allows the user to watch POV skydiving footage on a specially designed VR helmet that takes the indoor skydiving experience outdoors.

“While you are in the safety of our wind tunnel, you will be watching mountains and even other skydivers fly by from 14,000 feet! It’s really quite incredible.”

The iFLY VR Experience combines the latest in VR technology with the state-of-the-art wind tunnel creating the most realistic skydiving experience ever offered in Australia.

iFLY VR package is now available at iFLY Downunder (Sydney West) to fly from 19th November 2018.

The technology will also land at iFLY Gold Coast and iFLY Perth by the end of the month, making it the hottest new product on the market this Christmas.
